The Collegiate Inventors Competition:
The World Will Beat a Path to Their Door

Earlier this week I came across a brilliantly designed microwave popcorn popper. Simple yet effective, it was a perfect example of how false the saying is "If you build a better mouse trap the world will beat a path to your door." Though my research is not yet complete, it looks like the product failed because of poor branding, marketing and distribution. But that's a subject for another posting.

However during the research process I was checking out the newly redesigned US Patent and Trademark Office Website and there was a blurb about the Collegiate Inventors Competition. Intrigued I began to read about the current and past winners of the competition.

Absolutely brilliant inventions. Though most are more scientific than readily commercialized products, it's easy to recognize the genius and innovation behind the inventions. No the world won't really beat a path to their door now that these college students have created these marvels of modern technology. Venture capitalists however will, and with proper nurturing and development these inventions will become the next Greatest American Consumer Products.
